Flower Drawings 2010
Iris's and Poppies are one of my favorite flowers to observe and use as subject matter. Their blooming time usually occurs about the time school lets out. In spring 2010 in Virginia they bloomed early, while school was still in session. Not wanting to miss the the opportunity, I drew them daily, using pen and ink.
These drawing were visual meditation exercises, focusing on mindfullness, since when working directly with pen and ink one has to pay close attention, go slowly, and maintain focus.
In the iris drawings I found myself looking at the unopened buds, and the spent blooms as they reversed the process of blooming by infolding and curling inwards upon themselves. Musing on faded glory and untapped potential.
